Default Need an experienced eye (or two) to look at this.

Hi folks. I have an image here that is right out of the card. No adjustments made to it. I kinda like the picture, but I have a problem with the noise. Should an 800 ISO photo have this much noise?

I DO notice that I didn't need 800 ISO. I could have traded to a lower ISO if I had paid attention to my shutter speed. Lesson learned. (Although I'll probably make the same mistake over and over).

Still, I feel this has more noise than it should. What are your thoughts on the noise level of this photo?

How many more times do you think I can say 'noise' in this post?

Nikon D3100
ISO800
f/5.6
Shutter 1/640. (I know. not necessary.)
50mm
Noise.

Thanks in Advance.

wing.

P.S. Noise.

this will probably get moved, but anyway...
There was a time that ISO 800 was the limit of camera sensitivity, now the best cameras can produce usable images at 6400. Your camera is nice, but nowhere close to the top of the line. With a top base line of 3200, 800 makes you 2 stops from the end of usable range.

There will be noise at 800, even more so when you have large very dark/ black areas of the images that are also out of focus.

Run a noise reduction in LR or Noise ninja.

Thanks, Mr. Turner.

Agreed.
But don't let that deter you from shooting in these situations. There are good noise reduction programs out there...Lightroom and Nik come to mind but there are also free ones to get you started such as Noiseware community edition.

I like the perspective of this photo ... worth saving by running noise reduction software ...

For what it's worth, at the size you're displaying it here, I can't see any noise whatsoever. Depending on how you're going to be using it, the level of noise you're getting may not be anything to worry about.
