Default Red poppy

Taken with Canon 600D: lens EF-S: 18-55 f3.5-5.6 IS, f 5.6, 1/250, ISO 100, 55mm.

Have modified a little in PS CS2 - are the colours too saturated. It was a very bright day after a sudden shower and I've tried to compensate for a bit of overexposure. Also I'm not sure about the cropping. Wanted it to be off centre, but maybe the bud is too prominent? Many thanks.

Unfortunately you can't do much with that kind of light -- too bad you couldn't have taken the pic when it was cloudy. The bud doesn't add anything for me and the flower itself doesn't seem sharp in the center. Lots of stuff to think about for next time ...

Thanks for your comments - yes lots to think about for next time, and the comments help point me in the right direction.

In strong sunlight you could use a translucent white umbrella to soften the light, maybe even place it on a tripod for easier handling.
You can find them very cheap on Ebay.
