I am but a week old, exactly today, to photography. Don't know how this shot could be improved. Perhaps there should be more shadows and lights... Also don't know how to edit photos at the computer. Any advice in regards to that would be great!
Thanks
Chris

The lighting could be better, the photo is a bit dark. The clarity is good as well as the color. I use Photo Elements 9 for my adjustments. This is a good first attempt.

Thanks for the reply.
I have a technical question: all my shots are coming out a little dark, like this one. Is it a matter of exposure, or aperture, or could it be a combination of both? Could it be some setting in my camera that needs adjusting? I have been using manual mode for all the pictures I have been taking...

I agree with JohnT. But suddenly I want a cup of coffee and a couple of those cookies.

Keep at it. This site has a wealth of knowledge in the tutorial section. You can start with this..Exposure (1) A balancing act.

I spent many hours pouring over all I could find about the exposure triangle before moving on to the elements of composition, Rule of Thirds...yadda, yadda. I highly reccomend you put in the time and effort to read through all you can find about the basics. The learning curve will become less steep.
