This was taken on the side of an old red brick building. My camera was in B&W mode, so that's why it's Black and White. Should I have taken the picture in color? Should I crop it to focus more on the spider?

The answer to both your questions is Yes.
![]() Personally I never use the B&W mode on my camera for this very reason. If I want it in B&W I can change in PP but I can't recover the colour if shot in B&W. Your spider is a bit small in the shot, some cropping to make it the dominant feature in the frame. Because the spider is heading for the top left of the frame I would use the rule of thirds to place him on the bottom right 'third' point. I've taken the liberty of doing the cropping. It does need some sharpening as well. Looks like a large brown vagrant spider - out looking for his next meal!
