Default Chain Link

I took a picture of a chain because I loved the rust, it had great texture and had a vintage feel. In post, I darkened it a little using levels and added a vignette. I'm looking to see if the image is uninteresting and bland. Also, should I have used a smaller aperture to get the whole link? Lastly, should I have moved it more toward one of the third lines?

Camera Canon EOS REBEL T1i
Exposure 0.003 sec (1/400)
Aperture f/1.4
Focal Length 50 mm
ISO Speed 100
Flash Off, Did not fire

I have been searching through the forums for hours and every thread I learn something new. I figured it's time to get some input as well

By the strict definition, if the image isn't at least life size on the sensor plane, it's not macro. That said, most people (and certainly this board) treats "macro" as meaning "close-up".

I like the subject you've chosen quite a bit, and I like the way you shot it. I might have chosen a slightly smaller aperture, but I'm unsure that I'd like the result of that better than the one you chose.

I think you might be better off either running the chain through the opposite corners of the photo or through opposite sides rather than through a side and a corner, but that's pretty minor.

Nicely seen and captured.

BTW, you're probably more likely to get comments if you include the photo in the post rather than a link to the photo.

Thanks for your post Doug. I'll go back to the site and take a couple more pictures at different apertures and also play with where the chain enters and exits. I appreciate your taking the time to view and comment.

I'm not 100% sure how to make the pic appear instead of thumbnail but I'll look into it and then change the post.

Thanks for all the advice!!
Cheers!!

Cool. I like the composition but a bit more dof & a little lighter would be nicer in my amateur opininion. Because there's an obvious link (Geddit?!) between rusty chains & the sea, I wonder if wetting the chain with a plant mister or something might bring something else into the shot?
