Talking Am I yummy enough for you ?

Cupcake for NAbs.jpg

So this is my first time using a 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM- on my Canon 5D Mark II -
ISO 800 - 100 mm, 0.3 EV f/4 1/30
I used flash 430 EX to take this photo. It was at night in my kitchen.
I baked the cupcake and decorated it.

Is the composition appropriate ?
How do you find the proportion of background compared to the main object?
more importantly how could I render the photo more interesting? (maybe add some kitchen tools in the background?

Welcome to DPS. I would like to see the whole cupcake in focus. If you're using flash, you can use a smaller aperture.

if you mean this to be a macro shot, get in closer. Show me the texture of that cake and frosting and even those candy things on top. show maybe a 1/4 or 1/3 of the top of the cake.

As the shot is, less background would be good and a smaller aperture to get a better depth of field.
