Default Spider

Please, critique my composition and tehnique.

Some exif data: f around 8.0; 1/100 seconds; ISO 800; built in flash (with diy diffuser), 50 mm lens with extension tubes, Canon EOS 1000d.
I did no cropping of the image, few minor adjusments were made in lightroom (contrast, saturation etc.)

The pic is bellow:

In my opinion, too much of the spider is out of focus. Why did you use f/8? I would have went with a much larger aperture. The photo is also kind of dark. The composition is okay, i like how the spider is positioned at an angle.

I used f/8 beacouse if I would have used a larger aperture, the depth of field would have been a lot narrower causing more spider out of focus...

I think xxrayna meant a larger number not a larger aperture which would be a smaller aperture. Although in this case it probably would not have netted you any significant increase in DOF. This shot is pretty good for getting the most out of the lens you are using. The face is in focus and that is primary. So good work. The composition is just so so. By that I mean that almost everyone uses it and being centered and without context it is just a snapshot to me. Albeit a good one.

No, she was saying sorry for transposing the f/stop deal. Where the bigger the number the smaller the aperture, smaller number is a bigger aperture. No worries my friend.

I like that the face is in focus. If you had used a wider open aperture you would have had to slow your shutter or your image would have been darker. If you slowed your shutter you might not have had the image as sharp.

I like the web in the corner and the leaves.

I don't know for sure, but you might want to check your white balance. It looks a little to yellow or orange.

Thanks for sharing!
