Stems and Leaves - Newbie! Need all the help I can get!

So this is one of my first photos taken on my DSLR (Canon T2i with the lens that came with it). I liked the detail on the stems and the colors of the top leaf with the sun coming through, but I am not sure the composition is as good as it could be. Also, I have not done any editing or processing on this whatsoever, just due that I'm new to this and don't really know what to do. Any suggestions on processing that could be done? (I have GIMP and the software that came with my camera - too poor for PS or Lightroom right now) Last question - is the leaf in the bottom center too distracting? Thanks for your help!

Yes the leaf at bottom is distracting..I think you wanted to capture those coloured leaves..and stem..but i can barely see them..so try some different compos.

but one benefit of such photos is you can use them as textures..
play with some filters in PS..(I don't know what they call it in GIMP)..
