I've recently started in macro photography. Focus is a real pain in the ...

I think you're on the right track for sure.
I'm finding that lighting is very important. The better lit your subject is, the faster the shutter you can use. Which will help to reduce blur. That is, if you're not using a tripod.
I'm usually chasing down bugs and bees, so it may be more of an issue.

Your image seems reasonably sharp and it's definitely an interesting looking plant.

Thanks compleks, I appreciate the thoughts. Lighting has definitely been an issue for me as I get into this.

Especially when you get so close that your lens blocks the light.

I don't have a flash yet, so have to be very careful about my angles and approach. I have been using a small mirror to help reflect light where it is needed.
Macro photography is a lot more tedious than I would have expected. But it's also a lot of fun, so I can't complain.

I like the composition. I think it would be slightly better with just a bit more space above the curly-cue at the top, but you're right in the ballpark, I think. Neat subject.

Thanks dlambert. I think you may be right about the spacing at the top. Time to get out my trusty Photoshop sidekick.
