I took this photo as an experiment with water drop macros, and overall I like how it turned out, yet I feel there is something funny about the water drop, so my questions are...

2. How is the overall focus?
3. What do you think about the crop?

Thanks All!

I don't think anything is wrong with the water; it is simply acting as a magnifying lens in its own right. You could explore moving the light source, as it has quite a strong reflection obscuring part of the detail.

Overall though, an effective and striking photo.

I don't know about the answer to your questions, but I just thought I'd tell you:

1. I like it
2. It definitely strikes me as sort of an eye with a tear drops(s). Cool.
3. I like the crop

In answer to your questions: nothing really, you could try cloning a little of the reflection away. Then fine for 2 and fine for 3.

I like this also. A very interesting shot. I can imagine a card or book cover.

I like the colours and I like the way that the sugar / Christmas card has caught the light, that's really nice. I'll have to try that myself.

I'd be willing to bet that the thing that seems off about the droplet is the shape. During my 365 project I actually played quite a bit with feathers and droplets and there were two things I learned. The first is that the light is very important because it's almost inevitable you're going to get some sort of reflection. The second (and this became my little trick of the trade for getting things to cooperate) is that if you can get your hands on some Glucose Syrup (or possibly corn syrup, though I've heard that's a bit more watery), you will find that you get the nice circular droplets (plus you can do a bit of gravity defying if you want (an example of mine).
