Default Macro Dandelion

I am a beginner using a point and shoot for right now. Took this photo, the wife liked it and it is hanging in our kitchen now. give me the honest truth on this bad boy. I have wide shoulders - I can take it

edit: I just read where I am not supposed to ask "what do you think" - oops. Here is a question I was wondering - would this photo be better if the background were blurry instead of in focus. I am not sure I can do that with my camera but I will look into it. Thanks.

It looks ok exposure and focus wise.

Aesthetics;
Some of the elements in the background are a distraction.
The light blade of grass is a big distraction.
I would have removed it before shooting, however you may be able to remove it or darken it when post processing.

I can see why your wife likes it.

Like he said, with exception that in my personal view the grass blade is kind of knit-picking as oppose to a big distraction. But all viewers are unique. The fact that it is curved in the direction of the circumference of the flower helps, I think.

Nice shot and thanks for sharing it.

You are correct in that getting a blurred background with your camera is going to be difficult at best. If you can get the background farther away (not possible in this case) enough to get out of the DOF maximum it will go blurry. It a blessing and a curse of the point and shoot camera. I like the photo, the color is very good and the flower is at its peak. Jim

It's certainly not a bad shot. The only thing I would add to what the others have said is that the colors look a bit flat. If you have Photoshop or GIMP, then I'd try to bump up the saturation and/or vibrance a bit to make the flower pop.
