Default Purple on yellow

Believe it or not, the yellow background is out of focus yellow/green grass on the slope beside our house. I picked these two flowers, stuck them in a bottle on a table in the shade and cheated a little with the garden hose. The composition isn't technically right but somehow the odd coloring and end result seem to work for me. I'd like your thoughts on this and any other critque you may wish to share.

Technical:
The exposure looks ok, However the focus is a bit off. It appears to be on the plane of the leaf and water drops..

Aesthetic:
I'm not so sure about the yellow background (but that's an artistic decision.)
The cropping is a bit tight, in that you have purple leafs cut off, and the green leaf draws my eye right out of the photograph

Thanks Richard for those comments, much appreciated. WYSIWYG as far as the framing goes - yes it was bit too tight in retrospect. My main concern at the time was getting both the stamen and water drops in focus but I should have done so for the entire front flower at least. I recall it was a bit windy when I shot these so I can blame that (ha, ha). So much to consider before pressing the shutter button.
