I know this photo isn't perfect, please critique it. What can I do next time?

I am not a close up expert, however I have taken one occasionally.

Technical:
Exposure looks ok, although a bit dark on the bottom on the plant making it a bit hard to see the other bug. (maybe lighten it up in PPing).
Focus is OK and the eye of the bee is sharp.
I wonder how it would look with a bit more DOF (upping your ISO to 400 would allow you to shoot a f16) giving a bit more DOF)

Aesthetic:
The green branch is a bit of distraction.
The bee may have looked a bit better if it wasn't dead centre and on the edge of the photographs
If you have space when cropping you may want to try to put the bee on one of the "thirds" intersections or at least on a third.
---------
You have got a lot closer to a bee than I have.
Good job.

Thanks Richard I'll give it a try to today. I guess I should have mentioned that I used my 18-55mm lens. Also I don't have Photo Shop so there is very little post production going on.
