Default Spring is Here!

Though Spring may be here, I've yet to capture any landscapes or wildlife (that I like, that is). But I need to feed my ever growing thirst for photography, so what better to capture spring than Macro Still Life? (:
Anyways, to the picture. I know this isn’t a desirable photograph overall for many reasons. But I would like to know something specific.

Now that you've looked at it, would anybody mind telling me if the brightness of the petals on the outskirts of the flower is at all desirable? What I mean is, the overexposure causing the yellow to be one (very bright) shade of yellow with white highlights. I showed this to some people, who said it looked nice, but I would really like some professional opinions. Again, I know overall this is not a desirable photo; I just want to know if I should watch out for that in the future or maybe add it for more character in a photo (?).
Please and thank you! (:

You are correct in the blown highlights detract. I have never seen a shot with blown highlights that looked good, but that is me.

A macro flash setup will allow you to also get a greater DOF and retain the natural light look (when properly dialed in) I know it sounds odd to use a flash in sunlight, but when you are using f11-14 the flash as a fill is very helpful. This will also help eliminate motion blur of the subject, and shake in handheld shots.

+1 on the blown highlights.
I try never ever to have those, sometimes without success, unless shooting high key.

Another way of reducing the contrast is to use a reflector to bounce some light into the subject.

Ditto

But, Dude! Did you bother to read the expectations for posting in this section?

How are we to advise you other than to say, "Ya, blown highlights." if we don't know your EXIF data for the shot.

You just posted an image. Under what conditions was it taken. What was the ISO? What was the aperture or f/number? What was the shutter speed? What lens were you using and at what focal length?

Dude! If you could give us some information, maybe we could make some practical suggestions like Thunder tried to do on the basis of .... nothing...

So, let's start over. Please continue this thread by looking up and posting the EXIF data for this photo. Then I'll take another look at it and tell you what I think
