The fly is out of focus. I am not crazy about the DOF. Maybe crop it more or frame the fly more.

The fly doesn't really 'pop out' of the image right?
how can i get the focus just right?
i did this one in manual mode, but out of the 4shots, this one is most in focus

You can practice shooting using different apertures or move your camera back and forth until you find which part of the subject you wanted is in sharp focus.

Find a smaller DOF or smaller f-stop number. This will make your subject standouts and make your subject’s background blurry.

Use a tripod.

Try taking more than four pictures if possible. I was taking pictures of an orange caterpillar yesterday and took about 150 shots and none of them were sharp enough. When I take pictures, I usually start with a set f-stop and ISO. Then, I take more pictures using different f-stop and ISO.

One more thing, do you know if Picasa is set to scale down your image resolution after uploading?

Thanks Irivetz.

150 shots?? woow, thats's a whole lot!
and then hearing that none of them's good enough??
That kinda hurts right?

What exactly do you mean by scale down?
You can set it to resize the image (change it's pixels and or resolution).
you can do that while uploading or when exporting your (edited) image to an folder

When I said scale down, I meant it to lower the photo’s resolution or to make the photo’s size smaller. If you did any of the above after uploading, it might be the reason why the fly seems to have noise around it.

Take a look on my post titled, orange caterpillar. Let me know what you think.
