Try not to shoot down on flowers, it is how everyone normally sees them and results in a fairly pedestrian photo. Second open up your f/stop (4 or 5.6) to throw the background out of focus so the flower is the show and isn't lost in the background. Third if you are shooting outside then anytime after 9 am or so, or an hour before sunset will result in harsh light that is completely unflattering to your subject. Fourth, use a tripod and a remote shutter release (can also use self timer) or you will get a soft photo. Set your focus on the front edge of the flower and let your DOF work for you. If you have a spray bottle of water, then spritz the flower just before you shoot and the beads of water will make a more pleasing photo. Keep shooting and if you are looking at the LCD to see if the shot is sharp, they all will at such a small viewing area so zoom in on the LCD and see if it is really sharp. Oh, and keep shooting, it will help you more than just about anything else.

Could you post your photo here for us? Its much easier to offer a critique without flipping from one page to another

Sorry about not posting correctly...I guess I better reread those rules.

@ JFSanders Thanks a bunch for the comments and i am going to get out and do some more as soon as the monsoon here stops...and it gives me a good subject for getting more familiar with my tri-pod! & a special thanks for mentioning the positioning and spritzing.
