Default Winter Cactus

I did this picture a while ago, and would like to see what you all think. I like the colors, and DOF, and crop. But What do you all think of the image overall, does it work, are the colors strong enough, is the DOF just to small?

Okay, so whats the problem people? Is it that bad, so bad you don't want to waste your time? Or is it so good, that you cannot find any fault with it? Because I really do not believe either one to be true. Come on people, you most haveing something you want to say about it...

T.R.R.

since you asked, ill give you my input. keep in mind im a beginner here but let me just say what i see. it looks good, but maybe try to work a little on your composition of the shot, i feel like the flower is floating, but again, this is art and there is nothing wrong with it.

When I had set this shot up, I had wanted it to be the main focus, almost a 3D feeling to it. I have to admit that I did not really want it to be floating, but I do not feel like it really takes away from it to much.

Beautiful flower! I am new to photography so bear with me. I really like the colors here. I love the way they meld together in the background.I feel that the flower is the main subject and its beautiful. I would have had the leaves just a "little" more in focus, but very little. But somehow I feel if you do that it would take away the effect of the background colors on the left especially.Overall the DOF is way to cool to me. I need more practice in that area. Great job.

Thank you jjbacoomba for your comment. When I was setting this shot, I had tried a couple times to get the leafs just a little sharper. But it seemed like everytime I tried, I would lose the blend of the background. Like you said, I felt it was better this way, then to sacrifice the overall image for a little gain.

Thank you lil red bird for comment and question.

I used a prime 50, mounted on macro extension tubes. I believe I had on the 24 mm tube, then for the light source I used a single strobe with a large soft box, bounceing off the ceiling. This helped me with removing all the shadows and giving me nice rich colors. This picture is basically SOOC,

I think it would look better if you cropped the left side to eliminate the purple blob in the background - I find it distracting and a crop would help to put the focus on the flower ....
