I guess first off, just for terminology there is no such thing as "my first DOF". This would be your first shallow DOF. DOF is a description, either deep or shallow it is not a thing on it's own. This whole image looks fairly unfocused. Also, you will accomplish a more shallow DOF the more telephoto you use. You shot this one at 12.3mm, try as zoomed in as you can get. The one I am attaching is shot at 200mm.

Lynde-6 sm

The one thing to remember is that with the small sensor on your point & shoot, you will not be able to get as shallow a DOF as I have posted here.

Does that P&S camera have a manual mode? I am assuming it is increasing the aperture as it increases focal length canceling each other out.

The sensor being around 5 times smaller than a DSLR, will make achieving a shallow DOF quite hard. According to the specs, you have a f4.8 when zoomed. I would try aperture priority, set it to f4.8 and zoom out as far as you can go. Get as close to the object as you can and still focus (in this case, zoom with your feet) and take the image. See how oof the background is in that situation. The further the background is from the subject, the more out of focus it will be.

Your camera has a macro mode. Select that and move as close to the object as you possibly can (the minimum distnace of focus of your camera). This will give you the shallowest DOF.
Have a look at Online Depth of Field Calculator for more precise calculation.
