Default Seed pods

Seed pod

Canon EOS Rebel T1i
f/7.1
1/30 sec
ISO 800
49mm
No flash

My little girl and I went for a walk and found these little seed pods. I really loved the texture and wanted to photograph them, but struggled with what to do with them. I don't have alight box yet. (Hopefully soon) What do you think of the composition and exposure? I also played with the DOF a lot and this was what was satisfying to me. Opinions? Thanks in advance!

About the only change that I would make would be to expand the crop so that there is more room around the subject. if you were to print and matt this the subject would be right at the edge or under the matt.

There is a thread in here some were that has link to how to make a home made light box on the cheep. If you would like I'll post the link that I put in that thread.

Thanks Thunder! I found the link Payday I will be picking up the supplies to build my light box. Also thanks for the tip about the crop. I guess since I haven't actually matted and framed any of my work, it didn't come to mind.

Be careful. Printing, matting and framing your own shots is as addictive as taking them
An experament a couple of years ago with matting has lead to a room full of printing and matting gear….

You have been warned

I love the simplicity of the shot. Did you look at it in B&W?

Thanks for the warning Thunder!

Michael, this is for you. I did a B&W conversion but I'm not loving it. (Which is rare for me because I usually have to stop myself from converting everything!) I think it's because the textures are already so "cold" (and pointy lol) that it becomes too cold in the conversion. They wind up looking like little miniature weapons! (They're smaller than a ping pong ball.) I think I like the warmth of the natural color better, but thanks for the suggestion!

Ooooooooo.... weapons! lol

Nah, you are right. The warm colors make the original shot. Kind of a prelude to the changing seasons.
