Default Right focus?

I was really focusing on the fly...is there too much of the flower in focus to distract from the fly?
Nikon D40X
1/400 sec
F5.0
60mm Nikor Macro lens
ISO 400

I think this is jaw-dropping and wouldn't suggest any changes. If you go to your Fickr image and click on "share this" then click on "grab the HTML/BBC Code", then copy the code shown for "medium image" and paste it into your post here, then the image will show up when people are reading your post. Sometimes maybe they don't want to take the time to get redirected to Flickr.

I would strongly suggest you try this with your image and maybe re-post because I think it is an excellent example of a true macro. The fly is totally in sharp focus and the flower and background provide very colorful counterpoint to the fly's drab colors.

Great image. Thanks for posting the URL. Now try to post the HTML code.

Thanks for the compliment on the picture, macro is my passion and it is not easy to get it just right. And, thanks for the upload tip...I couldn't figure out how to get the image to show up in the post!

Well, your passion is a wonderful example of what can be done, and knowing what can be done encourages folks like me to try until we can get it right.

So thank YOU! My wife and I thought love this image.

This is an amazing shot! I absolutely love it. And no, IMO I don't think the flower is a distraction at all, but just the opposite. Because of the angle of the flower, it leads the eye to the fly. Incredible!

You did a wonderful job on the focus and DOF. There is not too much of the flower in focus, rather I beleave that there is too much flower. Since this is a macro shot and the fly (a very pretty fly) is the subject, I recommend a closer crop.

My personal opinion is, after looking at both several times, I have changed my mind and now prefer the original. I think that the greater area of color in the original along with better approximation to the rule of thirds serves to concentrate focus upon the subject better. In the re-crop, the fly is bigger, and more centered, but maybe bigger isn't always better.

Also, I may have missed it, but notwithstanding your obvious intention to be helpful, permission to rework someone elses image isn't implicit.

In any case, I'll stick with my original statement; I wouldn't change anything about it. That's just me.

I like the tighter crop as well. Super photo! I like the colors and the contrast of the flower.

Ok, if the OP wishes I will take it down, in the realms I frequent, in a critique room one is expected help and make that help as clear as possible. If there is a very clearly defined subject in macro it is generally held that the greater the detail of the subject the better, that is the defining difference between macro and close up photography, the revealing of that which is too small for the unaided eye to make out.

But, maybe things are different here. No offense was or is intended.
