Old Fence

I'm new to photgraphy, so I have a lot to learn. I like this photo, but I want to know if there is something I should do to improve it or what I should change if I redo it. I already edited it a bit. Should I have tinted it differently? How is my composition? Anything else you think I should change? Any comments help! Thanks

I like the lines in this, and the weathered appearance of the wood. To me, the subject is actually the lock; the idea of a locked gate. I think it's helpful to try to see what the image is trying to say, and that's the main thing this one would say to me.

So with that in mind, not knowing your intention as the photographer which may be quite different, I would have tried to change the angle to make the lock clearer and more prominent.

I think your sharp focus on the latch and adjacent fence directs the viewer's attention to that portion of the image, and I like the straight lines of the fence.

B&W is good for this image to emphasize form, and sepia would also be a possibility in that it can suggest age.
