I am looking for a critique on the quality of this macro shot in terms of composition, color and focus. Thanks much!

Default Could be great!!

Hiya
The colours in the picture are great, but I'm not so sure on the focus point - my eye doesn't really have anywhere to stop and stare. Try again focusing on the closest part of the picture

Good point timjb! I just learned about the 'rule of three' and think this will help me next time with my composition. The amaryllis is wilting now, but I'll try with another subject. Thanks for the feedback about the colors. Cheers . . .

I like the vibrant colors and the way the arcs of the petals draw my eye from the edges of the petals down into the interior of the flower; perhaps this is how bees feel when approaching a flower.

Your signature comment, "I am only limited by what I refuse to see.", could be given an ironic twist here in that refusing to see the out-of-focus petal edge nearest to the viewer may extend the ability of the viewer to enjoy the effect . Unless the exposure is a typo, you were using a tripod, and I wonder if a significantly smaller aperature might have provided better DOF; perhaps something like f/11 at 1s?

Thanks for sharing it.

Hey there chicagojohn! Ha! I'll take that as a compliment ... no tripod, just me holding my breath turning blue! I love the tip about the aperture and will try it (I'm currently playing with manual settings ... it's a brave new world).

I am glad that you 'got' the arc of the petals since they were my inspiration for the name. And I love your comment about my 'signature' ... I wrote it in the spirit of 'the truth will set you free.'

Thanks again! I'm headed out into the winter sun ...

It helps a great deal, both for your benefit and others to include information asked for in the guidelines. Thank you ahead of time for editing your post!
