Default Wild flowers

Picture taken on a cloudy morning outdoors in natural light with a Cannon EOS D1000.
Exposure 1/80, aperture f/5.6, ISO 400, flash OFF, exposure prog.- Manual, lens 18-55 kit lens.

I find the out-of-focus portions of this image to be distracting. If this were a studio composition, I would try to isolate a single subject and then make sure it was entirely in focus, using the bokeh effect to isolate and emphasize it relative to the background. I even think that the flower emerging from a bud along-side the full flower adds interest... if both were in focus and the sole subjects of the image.

Surely, one can manage to focus upon portions of this image and see incredible beauty; that is not at issue. But to make it an image that transfixes the attention, in my view, it should be singular. As it stands, the "background" consists of many other, similar out-of-focus flowers, requiring too much work in the visual cortex of the observer to sort out the intention of the photographer.
