Default fake apple/pumpkin

I was working on capturing the fake apple / pumpkin with the rule of thirds and up close - you can see the flash reflection in the apple I would like comments to avoid the flash reflection if possible - I also would like any critiques and tips to improve taking photos

Softening/diffusing the flash would probably help. For cheap diffusers, people use all sorts of things, such as pieces cut from a milk jug and rigged to cover the flash or yogurt containers with a slot in the side so they'll slide on sideways over the flash.

See DIY Lighting Hacks for Digital Photographers for some ideas. Also just do a google search for "diy flash diffuser" and you'll find plenty of other such links.
