Default The Fly

Hello everyone, have just purchased my first DSLR camera and still trying to work out the settings. I was wondering if you think the white foreground is a bit bright and overpowering the fly.

I like it alot, I do think its alittle bright, but you can adjust that slightly in Photoshop.

Maybe a tad bit. But it's still good
What about trying a focal blur around the fly?

I have no idea what I should be editing, not only am I new to photography and this forum I thought I had done well just to work out how to get a picture on here. You will have to tell me directly what is wrong so I can fix it up, I'm sure it must be something simple and very obvious to the experienced people here but being new I realise now I have done something wrong.

No worries,
# Please include the following information, if possible, with your image: EXIF info, type of camera, specific questions (What do you think? is not a specific question). A meaningful title, NOT "Critique Please", will also get your post noticed in a crowded section, as well as any additional information you can give about the conditions in which you shot.

It helps a great deal to know the settings you had on your camera at the time you took this shot. We could suggest alternate settings if need be. Do you know how to find that??

Hello again, thankyou for helping me.

Camera Canon EOS 500D
Exposure 1/100
Aperture f/7.1 (does that sound right?)
Focal Length 55 mm
ISO Speed 100
No flash
Photo was taken at 10:00am
With my limited knowledge of photoshop I did crop this photo.

At this early stage in photography I am happy with this picture but wondered what I could have done differently to stop the white flower glaring in the foreground or whether people thought that it wasn't a problem.

First off nice shot!

Secondly, what you might be noticing is that your composition is drawing your eye toward the foreground! I think with a different composition, and quite possibly opening your aperture up a little bit to blur out the foreground and give yourself some nice Depth of Field, that will help draw your eye towards the fly!
