Default Hope this qualifies as macro...

My first post

Wheat thing?

Does the DOF work for this? I think I maybe should of had the focus on the front of it instead? Any other suggestions are welcome too.

p.s. Not sure why the iso was at 400, I hardly ever mess with iso, so that was a mistake, anyways...

Camera Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi
Exposure 0.003 sec (1/400)
Aperture f/1.8
Focal Length 50 mm
ISO Speed 400

well your f number is too small, maybe you would want a wider aperture next time?

I think you have this backwards. f/1.8 is a LARGE (wide) aperture. Going "smaller" would mean going to f/8, f/9, etc., which are smaller apertures. That would give mare depth of field (which I think the OP would like).

So yes, a good suggestion would be: try stopping down to at least f/4, maybe even f/8, and seeing what happens.

I like the idea, but right now you have a little bit of subject lost in a BIG field of nothingness. You might consider cropping down to focus on the subject a bit more, or else rearrange to get the stem (or a leaf, or something else) also in focus. A stem especially would help to lead my eye into the photo.

I would like to see you focus on the “face” of the caterpillar. They usually have wonderful antennae and eyes.

Crop using the rule of thirds.

I'm pretty sure it's what we used to call a "tickle weed" -- just the seed-head of a type of grass, not an animal.

lol

Ooops!

All the more reason to shoot from another angle and with a different DOF so that people can figure out just what they are looking at.

Of course, if one is going for the abstract-art look. . .
