I am just a beginner at this game, so I really don't know much of anything. I watched some PP videos online. I use Aperture. And shot in RAW, however I think that this was the jpeg version that I edited. I know it is a little overboard on the post production, but that was kind of the style I was going for. Any tips or ideas are welcome.

I'm new too so feel free to dismiss if I'm not aligned to what you were trying to express. I felt the focus on the leaves was a bit too soft (I guess that's where you're trying to focus the viewer's attention). I'd have tried a center point focus on one of the leaves (I don't know the technical term for that) to make them sharper. And the varety of colors in the background kind of take away from the leaves - maybe a B/W background would help ? More saturation would make the leaves stand out.

I was trying to focus on the one center leaf, but they were all around the same focal length, so I got them all. The reason it is not as sharp as it should be is because the wind was blowing about 10 mph and I was able to snap this when it died down a little. I tried your suggestion for the B&W background, and attempted to sharpen it up more in PP. I am not sure how much I like the B&W, but here it is.
I did a little more B&W editing. I like this one better. Last edited by egzachly; 10-26-2010 at 10:29 PM. |

I think the BW BG does add to the photograph, simply to draw attention to the leaves - your primary area of interest. Personally I prefer this one to the other and I'd like to crop the right hand side a bit. Again, my personal preference. I'm sure others with more experience at PP using PS would be able to add more value.
Q - How do you attach a thumbnail to the post ? I paste the HTML code from flikr/picasa and it puts in the whole image there...I'd rather have a smaller one here and have the viewers click on it to see the larger one.
