This one actually happened by accident. I was shooting something else when this dragonfly alighted just a few feet away. I quickly stepped back a bit, extended to full zoom and clicked:
EXIF: Shutter: 1/200 sec Aperture: f/6.3 ISO: 200 Focal length: 270 mm Flash: Not fired What do you think of the composition? I felt the diagonal aspect suits this image, since the leaf is going across the frame. Should I crop closer? |

![]() It works as it is. I would prefer to crop some space on left and at top. Don't cut anything from the tip of the leaf. My crop suggestion is optional. Nice work. |

Thanks, bruceliv. Yes, luck has an important role in what we do, although some may disagree. I tried to adhere to the rule of thirds while framing, so that the tip of the leaf is at the upper left intersection and the rest followed from there.

It is a very cool photo. Luck can be as important as planning
. You were there and took it, great shot.Phil

Personally, I wouldn't crop it. I like the extra space, and it gives the dragonfly a place to fly off into, as well as let me wonder where he is heading off to.
The space starts to create a story instead of just a macro photograph... Well done!
