Smile Butterfly and it's Shadow.

I think this is a pretty good picture, but I'm open for critiques.

Nice. I like it a lot. The only thing I'm not sure about it's that the butterfly is a little bit too dark and so it loses detail...

Thanks for your input Carles. I've lightened the image...what do you think?

It came out nice enough for a back lit shot. The butterfly is more visible after lightening it but the detail of the leave washes out a bit. These are tough to get right when there is strong light coming from behind, the shadow is nice and would have been diminished with fill flash. I would have liked to seen more of the butterfly, but I know they are hard to pose.

Pat, the essence of this image is wonderful. The lightened version is an improvement.

I don't like the lens vignetting on the edges. I would suggest you crop this image, carefully, not too much. I believe the subject would pop out even more. Fill in would have ruined the uniqueness of the shot.

You might also think about not using the 55-200mm at the extremes. Image quality might improve if you shoot slightly less then maximum zoom, perhaps ~180mm.

Great capture!

One option is to desaturate the green a little and lighten up the butterfly even further but its a great shot....

I think it looks really good. I like how you captured the shadow on the leaf. Do you have any others your willing to share?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and viewing my photo. I've taken action to desaturate, clone, crop and lightened...what do ya think?

I liked all three but the adjustments you are making are definitely improving the shot. Nicely done!
