I decided to go to the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas, CA with a few family members to play around with my camera. I recently upgraded from a Canon XT to a T2i and hadn't really gotten a chance to play with it much until yesterday. So not only was I experimenting with a new camera, but I decided to try out some macro type shots.
I was using the Canon 50mm f/1.8 since I can't seem to stop using that lens and I've fallen in love with the shallow depth of field. The settings for the shot are as follows: Canon T2i Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens Iso 200 1/4000 sec exposure no flash fired 0 EV a little post production to bump the contrast a bit My main question would be in regards to cropping this image, I was tempted to crop it a bit to bring the focal point away from the center a little, but I still liked the original more than the crops that I tried. And being that the flowers range from white to purple, i feel like the white ones are a bit blown out compared to the purples. any suggestions to fix this one? I really like the picture, but feels like something is off and I just can't put my finger on it.

i think in general the picture could use some more light. it could be an artistic effect that you're using the darkness... but I would like to see more light. Also the focus is in the middle right now, it has an illusion that its slightly to the left side. I think this picture lacks a subject that really catches the eye. there are a bunch of small flowers there, but none that really stand out, and as a group, they don't really stand out too much.
the white flowers are not blown out, they're fine ^_^ I too would like to see a vertical crop.
