Here is a quick shot of some blueberries. I've had a few compliments on this picture in particular from my friends, but something doesn't sit quite right with me. I don't know if it's the colours(bit over exposed), or the framing or whatever that is bugging me. Perhaps I just plainly don't like the subject. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I love blueberry, where I live, there's a lot of them!!
About your photo, I think there is a lot of wasted space... Some cropping would be nice. Maybe with the rule of third, the blueberry will be place at the right place. The color saturation can be boost a little. I learned a new way to do that today: vibrance!! I'm pretty sure this will help you! I don't think you are over expose at all, if something, you are under expose!! More light would help... Oh, if I may suggest, with your exposition (1/250 sec.) there's place to lower your ISO. A lower ISO prevent grainy photo. So you can lower your exposition to be able to lower your ISO... Overall, your photo is good and I love the subject ![]() Hope this help! Only my opinion... Have a nice day!!

Thanks for the feedback! Despite having a slight aversion to post production, I took your suggestion and cropped it down. It did remove a lot of the washed out feel to the whole shot. I then warmed the colours a bit and increased the saturation just a touch. It does look better, but something is still nagging at me. I don't know, perhaps it is simply low photographic self esteem!
Here's the resulting pic: ![]() Thanks Again! Edit: I also removed that light coloured stick near the bottom of the picture's center as it was distracting. Last edited by Numitor; 09-04-2010 at 11:57 PM. Reason: Updated the picture |

Your second pic looks a lot better. I was going to say the same thing as franky, the blueberry was too small in the frame. It wouldn't hurt to push the saturation a little bit more, and perhaps a little more crop but its not bad as is.

Actually, I think what you have is a great pic. If anything, I think what you (and I) have a problem with, is the that the colors don't "flare". Some colors really shine against one another, but here, I think all of them are bland. That may be the wrong word, but the only one I can come up with. LOL... One of the two colors you have need to really pop is what I am trying to say I guess. Just a thought, and I am a REAL amatuer! LOL. So take this with a grain or TWO of sand! hehehe
