Default Bronze Bell

Hi all. I've only had my first DSLR (a Canon 50D with an 18-55mm IS AF lens kit) for a few days but I thought I'd show one of my macro photos that I particularly like.

Taken at f/3.5 18mm. Processed in Lightroom 3.

Thanks for any tips and critique

I would like to see more blurring of the backgound as the colours blend in with the bell and your eye wanders around rather than focusing on the subject, also need to have all of the bell in the frame.
Detail on the bell is clear and in focus,
enjoy your new camera and keep practicing and posting.

Cheers

Thanks. That is actually the limit of aperture on the lens I have (f/3.5), but I know what you mean.

Though it may sacrifice the wide angle, I believe a longer focal length might shorten the DOF. Is this right? I might do some experimenting when I get home.
