Default Beautiful Blossom

Another one of my macro shots taken recently. Is the exposure and lighting and focus OK? I have cropped this from the original shot to just show the flower and nothing of the surroundings. Is this the right thing to do? Incidentally, can anyone tell me what flower is this?

No idea what flower it is, and I haven't seen the flower in person, but to me, the colors seem a little flat. Also, with all the layers of petals and scalloping on the edges of the petals, I'd try some other angles. I bet you'd get some more interesting shots other than a here's-the-flower-shot-from-above-in-the-middle-of-the-frame variety

I think an even tighter crop would work here. The background is not adding to the photo, so get rid of it all and show nothing but the flower. Some PP to pop the colors would be nice also.

Hope this helps.

I agree that it seems a bit flat...but I'm thinking that may be due to the fact that the flower is fake, or at least really appears to be when viewed larger.

Looks like kstiltne is absolutely right. The flower is fake all right. It is very evident when you look at the larger size image. Putting aside that fact, maybe a little contrast & saturation boost would benefit this image.

Hello Kstiltne / Stryker,

Thanks for your valuable comments. No, the flower is not artificial. It was a natural flower gowng in a pot. If you look closely at the background you will see the pot and parts of the plant.

I will try Stryker's suggestion to boost the contrast and saturation and post the reworked photo soon.

I rest my case. There is absolutely nothing wrong in photographing fake flowers, why try to pass it off as real? Placing it in a natural background is not going to make it real, just gives it a natural persepctive. As I said, nothing wrong with that.

Hi first of all, I think the flower is beautiful and the patterns are lovely. Though, you could try boosting the brightness and also, as said, make it a tight crop.

You could also recrop it so that the flower falls into the rule of thirds. It gives a whole new perspective. Example:
