Default Bee ready to take off

Ready for Take off

Even though this shot is not completely focussed, I like it because there are very sharp details along with blurry parts. I chose this shot among the complete serie that I shot that day because of the sharp details of the pollen on the bee's legs.
These are difficult for me as I'm not shooting with a specific macro lens.
I shoot with a 18-55 kit lens and extension tubes.

EXIF:
Camera: Canon EOS 50D
Exposure: 0.006 sec (1/160)
Aperture: f/8.0
Focal Length: 55 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: 0 EV
Flash: On, Fired

Should I use a other aperture value to have my subject focussed?

Thank you in advance for your critics.

I would prefer to see the bee's head in focus, opposed to the back of it.

I'm not sure about your EXIF info here with the f/8.0. An aperture of 8.0 usually wouldn't create this buck blur. I don't know - this could be from the extension tubes. I'm not familiar with them at all, so I can't really comment there.

But, if you would like to see a more in-focus photo and decrease the amount of blur, make your aperture smaller by 'increasing' the f/stop number. You will see more clarity with an aperture with a higher number, and you will see more blur with a lower-number aperture.

Try it - I like playing around with aperture! :-)

As a viewer I don't know that I should look for the pollen on the bee legs. Without you saying so the shot seems to be out of focus (unfortunately). But I like the colors of the shot - very pleasing to the eye

This shot would be MUCH better if the bee's front end, including his head was in focus, and better still if the whole be was in focus.
