Do you think that if I used a different ISO so that it didnt look so grainy? If so, which?

Camera: Olympus Stylus
expo time: 1/8
f-stop: f/4.3
metering mode: spot
ISO speed: iso-2500
exposure bias: 0 step

Yes! ISO 2500 should really only be used in dimly-lit environments, like at a wedding reception, outdoors at night time, etc.

Are you sure your data is right? Were you shooting in very very dark conditions? f/4.5 at 1/8 of a second and 2500 ISO seems off for the image. Bump down your ISO and light your coins next time . . if nothing else, use a small flashlight, and you'll get some interesting images, I'm sure. If you want more even light, try a table lamp with a piece (or two) of tracing paper over it to help diffuse it.

Good luck =)

Yeah, I'm sure. I got the specs straight off the computer. And no, I actually I was shooting in a fairly bright room. Maybe it went to ISO 2500 b/c of the black....

YES decrease the iso and increase the light!! I think a room can often seem adequately-lit for our eyes but not have enough light to go 'round for our poor lenses.

Also, seems like a bit of a soft focus. 9mm is pretty wide--were you pretty close to the coins? maybe you need to step back a bit to get a sharper focus? (some of the techno-peeps can correct me here if this doesn't make sense )

keep shooting!
