I like the blurred background. I think a tighter crop and you would have an outstanding macro. Hope that helps.

Thank you for the kind words. I'll have to give that crop a shot. Should a crop be tighter in all directions or just on the sides where there is more open space?

Wyndhydra,

There really are no set rules for cropping. I know this is such an incomplete answer. I have been frustrated by this type of answer in my journey of photography. What I try to determine is if the space has meaning to the story I want my picture to tell. If I can find no meaning to the space, I eliminate it. Often times the meaning is no more than breathing room for the subject, sometimes it provides direction to the photo, and sometimes it is no more than I like it better with the space. Without these reasons, I like tight crops on my photos. I hope this helps.

Yeah, tighter crop! I'd eliminate the whole empty left part and see if any cropping on the other sides is needed (Ron's instructions are great for that!)
I like the shot a lot - the blured background, the white delicate flower and this creature that was kind enough to pose
