Red face Spider-killing Spider

Here's a photo from wandering through the fields behind a friends house on Saturday. Overall, I think I'm pretty happy with it, though I'm thinking I may have been slightly off with the flash, or something. I'm not fully happy with the shine on the 2nd spider. The photo is actually upside down, as he immediately ran under a leaf the moment I came near. Does anyone have any suggestions on dealing w/ the highlights from flashes on a bugs shiny areas?

(I think that's the right info, I couldn't figure out how to copy it out of photoshop)

Wild shot of some creepie-crawlies. Overall, the flash highliights don't bother me.

1st - one less spider, I'm happy.

2nd - to eliminate the flash highlight (which I did notice), is to not shoot the flash straight at the subject. Get it off camera either with a chord or infrared or radio.. that will always help. Any subject hit with head on flash will look flatter..

If you were using the pop up flash try putting an index card in front of it to diffuse it. That worked for me til I got a Speedlite,
