Hi all,
Took this using a 135 mm 2.8 lens w/55mm extension tube and full flash at f/8. Any c/c on the composition/lighting? EXIF: D90 Onboard flash fired, full output 1/160s f/8 Would a black background have worked better? for PP I increased the exposure 2.25. Last edited by AdamR; 05-10-2010 at 05:33 PM. First of all, great composition and it is very creative of you to make a splash there! Though, I think there is a problem with the lighting or contrast because the farther edge hardly has any contrast with the background. And you should shoot it from a higher angle because IMO, the amount of coffee shown is quite little.
Hope this helps! Can't wait to see your new photo! It really has a great potential! ~Gloson

I think a black background would be too harsh a contrast. Maybe a mid gray or, better yet, a coffee brown. A non-white background will give the back edge of the coffee cup more definition.
A deeper depth of field might make the back of the coffee cup in focus. But I don't know enough about it to know if it would mess with the sharpness of the coffee splash. I like the angle of shot. It nicely shows the splash ring, with the white coffee cup light shining through, and the droplets suspended in air against the white of the coffee cup. Showing more coffee may loose that side view effect. |
