First Macro Shot of a Flower

Hi, this is Gopinath. I am a new member of DPS and this is my first shot at macro. This shot was a handheld shot at 7.30 am with flash.

I would like to have your critical comments as to where I could have gone wrong or what have I done right? I have not done much of PP except for a bit of contrast/colour adjustment and sharpening.

Any critique to improve myself is most welcome.

That's a great shot! I suggest instead of using a flash, use a torch or lamp or don't use any light at all. Then, shoot with a longer shutter speed so that the image will be brighter and the colors more vibrant.

Also, you could change the angle a little so that the stigma sticking out of the flower will be closer to the middle and not so near to the edge.

Though, the best way to determine which method will work best is to experiment :-) .

yeah the flash in this case is too harsh and obvious. also try to manipulate the background (solid black or solid white) so it will be clean and less distracting
