The colors are great! What kind of beetle is this?
Yep, lot of space could be cropped off the top, bottom and right to have a better composition. I think it would have been better if the beetle's head was in focus, but you all know I'm a total focus-freak! ("focus should be here, not there", right Tony? Sorry about that.) ![]() ![]() JMHO.

Love the colors on this beautiful beetle but IMHO I would have zoomed a little closer to the bug and maybe gone for a little more DOF so more of the beetle was in focus and closing in on it would mean you have less to crop and have a bigger image you can print larger. Great shot though, i really like it!

Thanks all for the wonderful feedback. I'll probably invest in some kenko tubes to get closer to my subjects.
artofindigo i have no clue what type of beetle it was unfortunately. I tried to used the feedback of tighter cropping and more of the subject in focus on this spider i stumbled upon today. ![]() Is this one done better? First off...Wow that is a great shot! I love the detail. I'm no expert but the one thing I would change about it though is the focus in the legs, make them as in-focus as the body of the spider.
But I think it a great photo anyway, and very brave of you to get close to a spider like that (: |

Ohh it was windy when i was taking the photo and the web was being blown closer to my camera and i didn't really enjoy the idea of the spider jumping on my camera so i quickly took the pic and backed off =P |

About the beetle, I love its colors and shine! :-) My suggestion is you should crop off the bottom until the beetle is at the center.
And about the spider, I suggest you zoom out a bit so it won't be too "tight". :-)

Can you re-crop both and show them again? Would like to see.
The one time I took a picture of a spider I used a zoom lense on it. I was not going to use macro. ughhh! |
