Default Kitchen Orchids

I generally don't do very much Macro, so I'd love your input. This was just a quick shot from some orchids I had sitting on the kitchen counter.

Nikon D5000
18-55mm f3.5-5.6 lens
Shot at 24mm f4.5
1/80
ISO 200

Full size can be found here: Flickr Photo Download: Orchids

I like the photo, although it looks like it could have done with a little bit more exposure. Mabe having the aperture at 3.5 instead of 4.5, or you could increase the ISO to 400.

If shot in RAW try to add some Fill Light and/or up the Exposure a bit just so we can see more of what's on the left. Other than that, well done

Default Increased Exposure

I bumped up the exposure from the RAW and tried to avoid losing any of the whites. Do you like this better than the original?

you might also need to adjust the colors as well. The simplest thing would probably to get it up to the exposure levels that you like. then start messing around with the colours.

Default Calibration

Thanks for all the tips. I wasn't really seeing any issue until I realized just how off my monitor calibration was. I've followed the steps from this article and I think I'm set up. It's a lot easier to see the issues you guys were pointing out. I highly suggest everyone check their calibration if you haven't already. I'm still not 100% convinced it's correct, so if you have any good tips for calibration techniques, please let me know. Thanks again!

This is from my uncalibrated laptop and I use Spyder 3 myself.
