Default Ciggirate and cards

Hi all,
I am new to DPS. I love photography and I have just started to learn the basics of it. I have a simple camera with auto settings (NIKON L100). I plan to learn few things before I move to an another higher end camera.

Atttached below is my first macro ever (infact its one of my first pics). Please let me know how can I improve it?

hey there! welcome to DPS
your gonna have a blast learning new techniques and
all sorts here.
it's a pretty good shot, but get your focus sharper on the ashes maybe?

oh and by the way, if you want critiques of your photos, there's a
section just for it!

Thanks for your reply. It was a nice suggestion to get the focus on ashes. I tried to focus on the print on the ciggirate. Next time I will try to re-do this photo.

BTW..Am I not in the macro-critique forum ? Please let me know in case this needs to be in an another forum.

Great idea, smokes and aces just go together. First thing, cropping can totally change a picture, changing the focus and having the eye less distracted, I also straightened it as well. I can take litterally dozens of shots trying to get what object I would like in perfect focus, takes time but once you get it, perfecto! I often end up manual focusing, even though all my lenses are AF.

Hi Ardy
Thanks a lot for the comments. Can you tell me which software you used it ? Post processing is as much important as a original picture. I would like to learn them also

I just used Piccasa. It is free. I do most of my serious work in Photoshop CS2... but Piccasa is great for the basics, can't believe it's a free download.
