Default Tullips the kids didn't kill

I don't currently have a marco lense but am using my telephoto lense in this case. Do i have the right idea with my composition?

Hi, midnightpro. Welcome to DPS

That depends on what you were thinking. The tulip in focus is in front of like-colored or similarly-lighted other tulips, so it's indefinite. That allows the viewer's attention to go to the OOF tulip at the top left of frame.

When a subject just touches ("kisses") the frame, it draws attention in an unfavorable way. It's nearly always a good idea to include all the subject with a little blank space between it and the frame, or crop it in such a way as to lessen its impact and show the viewer it was intentional.

Both blooms are curving to the right, which draws attention from left to right and out of frame. Westerners read from left to right, so we also view images that way, and if subjects point right and are near the right edge, there is less time spent looking at the subject - our gaze slides out of the frame.

While it may not be practical to compose with tulips pointing right, you could lower your position, put in-focus bloom nearer the left-top, smaller or less-open tulip lower-right in composition, and get the darker background behind both, leaving an inch around all of that. Try 10 different shots of those blooms, see what you like.
