Default Melting Icicle

I'm still very new to dslr, took this around my 2nd month.
Basically took it right outside my front door, used a telephoto lens zoomed into 200m. I used Picassa to work with the contrast and Neat Image to clean up the noise.
Still one of my favorite shots, would love to know how it could be better. No need to be gentle, I'm here to learn.

I would like to see the unedited verison of this picture... just to see what you removed and how you edited it. It is very neat. Plus, I'm from Texas and haven't seen very many icicles.

I love the edit version. Amazing how you captured the water droplet just at the right time.

Beautiful! ...and how many shots did you have to take to get it timed so perfectly?

The cropping is great, as is the black background. not really sure how you could improve it!

I probably fired off over 100 shots, d5000 doesn't have the quickest fps. Here is another 'keeper' from that day. Same icicle, with a little more of the background.

I'm not sure why, but I like the original one more. I think that may be because I see too much noise in the edited version. I'm sure that is from all those pixels being cropped out. Could you have zoomed in more to fill the frame? If not, I would have tried stepping up on a chair to get as close as I could so I don't have too much dead space.

Good job on post processing tho
