Default White Flower, Shallow DOF

Hello,

I tried to improve one of my previous shots.

Here is my effort

DSC_0840

The Exif Data

Camera: Nikon D40
Exposure: 0.008 sec (1/125)
Aperture: f/1.8
Focal Length: 50 mm
ISO Speed: 200
Exposure Bias: -4 EV
Flash: No Flash
File Size: 1991 kB
Lens: 50.0 mm f/1.8

My question is
1. Is the DOF proper.
2. Will cropping it achieve better effect ?

I like it, but I feel the centered composition is hurting it. I would try cropping some from the left to move it closer to the rule of thirds. Also, I would like to see a stronger color contrast between the flower and the background.

Hi, psanu. Welcome to DPS

1. This is better than your first one, the focus on the front bloom pulling the viewer in.
2. Because the background is pale and simple, losing some of it will be okay, and a crop will make your blooms appear larger.

What you have is okay for an understated illustration of a simple bloom. I won't say "boring," but it could be more interesting closer and with more contrast, as archersdad suggests. Practicepracticepractice
