Hey

First of all, I know, it is not a macro. But it was the category that fitted the photo best. Which other category should I have chosen, if not?

I just want your opinion on this image, generally. Also I hope you have som good advices to how I can improve my macro/close-up shooting with the kit-lens and without buying extra gear.

Canon EOS 500d/Rebel T1i/Kiss x3
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS

Photo taken at

Focal length 55mm
Aperture f/5.6
Exposure 1/200 sec

Thanks,
Simon

Hi, insimy

We tend to allow closeups because not everyone has a Macro lens, or understands that 1:1 idea.

Having a similar background works here with just enough blur and some bits of green mixed in. I appreciate how a good closeup tends to have a small area of sharp focus, and I think you've done well with this one. I'll look at your Flickr work and say more after that.

I work with a point-and-pray camera so I have no good advice for that. My Macro lens is a $5 magnifying glass, which gives me some average results. Others can tell you more.

After Flickr: It will help to see how you progress as you add more Macro to your Flickr. Practice, practice, and more practice will tell the story of your improvement.
