Earrings

hey this is a photograph of earrings of my colleague...do u like the composition,light..depth of field etc?...any improvements or suggestions are welcome.

Personally I find the background distracts me from the subject, its interesting in its own right! It has a wonderful texture which is brought out by the lighting. How about placing the earings a few centimetres in front of the background and using depth of field to put it out of focus?
