Default Stamen of the Lilly

New to flower photography - dont know if i've isolated the main subject correctly, colour ? - Lighting ? . All critique welcome. Shot on manual - 1/60th sec @ f5.6 at 200mm against a black core background. I know flowers should be shot with natural light, but its now 7.30 pm and no daylight so used diffused speedlight to cameras left on 1/3rd power.

Hi!

I like this photo! Love what you have done with the black background! the colors do pop! good work with the speedlight too!
I would have composed the image differently... i would have put the stamen to the right edge of the image and tilted it more (from left to right) but thats just me!

cheers!

Flowers are really hard to shoot because it's difficult to get a different take on them to everything else that's out there.

I think this is a good attempt, nicly isolated and exposed.

My suggestions would be to check the white balance as to me it seems a little on the warm side. It might also be worth trying to get the pollen off the petals before you shoot as it's a bit distracting. You could also try a different composition - you could get down low or try a super close up shot.
