Default Need help when sun is behind subject

I'd love some tips for taking shots when sun is behind the subject. The sun is not quite directly behind in this shot, but close. I used the flash which did help, but the background is blown out on the right where the sun was. Are there any tricks to minimize this? Looking forward to your great feedback!

Not a lot you can do, flash as you found is a major key. I think you have very tight depth of field so the backround is more unsharp than it is blown. Further The way you have done it forces the eye to your subject more, I really like the shot.

Thanks for the comments Kirbinster, Digidave, and siopaopei! Exif on Flickr here. I think I was using the auto settings on this one (bad girl), but the EXIF helps me learn what works so I can try the manual settings.

I took some better ones with the sun behind me - one of which I used for this week's DOF assignment.

I love it also- I peeked at your EXIF. I just learned that there was such a thing- I am having trouble fiquring out my Nikon D300 so I think by looking @ other peoples EXIFS on their Nikons will maybe help me set my camera so I can keep practicing w/ it. Thanks and great shot again!!

Thanks! I'd never heard of EXIF either until I found this site. I like "peeking" at others EXIFs also. Excellent way to learn.

Geaux, Welcome

Born and raised around Paris, Illinois. Miss it every day.

Have you gone right to the heart of the question? Ever try putting the Sun directly behind, let camera sort out the exposure? If windy, use high shutter speed. The link is to a simple shot, no special lens, filter or setting, just letting the camera handle the light.
