Default First attempt at flower macro.

Hi guys,
This is my first real crack at macro photography. This shot was taken with my 7D using a EF 50mm f/1.4 with a magnifying filter on the front. Any useful tips would be great.
Thanks
Patrick

You have avoided a classis mistake by not placing the image dead center with a halo of green aroung it. However, I think I would have liked to see all of the flower included in your composition. The focus on the flower itself is spot on and the addition of the water droplets adds to the sensuous feel of texture. The parts of the image that are out of focus do not bother me with the possible exception of the water droplets that are making specular highlights in the lower left. My experience with flowers is that full sun is usually not the best time to shoot them. Overcast days or a translucent screen can help a great deal to maintain color from brightest lights to darkest shadows.
